What Is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic Defined

Chiropractors (Doctors of Chiropractic) are the primary care professional for spinal health and well-being. Chiropractic is the science of adjusting the cause of disease by realigning the spine, releasing pressure on nerves radiation from the spine to all parts of the body, and allowing the nerves to carry their full quota of health current (nerve energy) from the brain to all parts of the body. Brief History

Records of spinal manipulations date back as far as 5,000 B.C. Dr. Daniel David Palmer performed the first chiropractic adjustment in 1895.The first Chiropractic College begun in Davenport, Iowa in 1897.

Training & Licensure

In addition to Chiropractic school, a 4-year Baccalaureate Degree is required for licensure. Chiropractic College is equivalent to approximately a 5-year Post-Graduate Degree. Chiropractors must complete the National Board Exam and Certification and in addition must pass a statewide licentiate exam. Doctors of Chiropractic must fulfill a minimum of 18 hours of continuing education requirements per year.

Scope of Practice

Doctors of Chiropractic are skilled in physical examination, diagnosis and when necessary referral to other specialist.

Chiropractic care has been safely provided as a means to relieve pain and restore health for over 100 years.
