The NCCA is excited to announce that Attorney General Josh Stein is confirmed for our Opioid Awareness Summit. He has made decreasing opioid abuse in our state a top priority and we are honored for him to address North Carolina chiropractors during the luncheon program. 

 

 

Luncheon Keynote

Donald McDonald's presentation will be on his experience recovering from addiction and his career working in NC's evolving continuum of addiction care. He will speak to the the crucial task of eliminating the stigma of addiction if we want to end the opioid epidemic and create a culture of recovery for all people experiencing substance use disorder.

 

Donald McDonald is the Executive Director of Addiction Professionals of North Carolina (APNC). APNC empowers its prevention, treatment, and recovery professionals to thrive in NC’s evolving continuum of care. Donald is a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist and holds a Master of Social Work from UNC Chapel Hill. A Navy veteran, former teacher, and “jazz” trumpet player, Donald McDonald is a man thriving in sustained recovery from mental health and substance use disorders since October 12, 2004.

About the event:

 

During this 6 hour seminar, doctors will learn an evidence-based approach using present day neurophysiological principles for pain management including: manipulative techniques, therapeutic exercise activities, electrotherapy, laser, pulsed electromagnetic field therapy, and manual soft tissue methods.

  • Attendees will learn from new research studies, with an emphasis on the treatment of chronic pain including important information on four pillars of lifestyle management and their relation to chronic pain.
  • Acceptable treatment guidelines will be presented for clinically appropriate and medically necessary treatment plans.
  • Complicating factors will be discussed as it relates to treatment planning for chronic pain management.
