Certified Clinical Chiropractic Assistant Certification (CCCA)

Frequently Asked Questions

FACT:  In 2013 the NC state legislature passed a law that requires all CAs with clinical patient contact to be certified.  The law took effect July 1, 2014.  If a chiropractic assistant has no clinical patient contact and is strictly administrative, this does not apply to them.

Q:  What are the requirements for certification?

A:  Applicants must complete 24 hours of education.  Eighteen hours may be obtained online and six are required in-person hours.  Prior to sitting for the exam the NC Board of Chiropractic Examiners must receive a completed certification application, an application fee, copy of birth certificate or driver's license, and a copy of the student's high school diploma. CAs have a period of 180 days after beginning work in order to be certified.

Q:  Who is in charge of the certification?

A:  The licensing body for the CCA is the NC Board of Chiropractic Examiners (NC BOCE).  Their phone number is 704-793-1342 and the address is 6070 Six Forks Rd. Ste.L., Raleigh, NC 27609.

Q.  I am a doctor and have a large office and have to get multiple people certified at the same time.  Does the NCCA give discounts for multiple registrations?

A:  We do offer discounts for multiple CA certification registrations. Please contact the ncca at 919-832-0611 ext. 105 or  Requests for discount must be done by phone or fax.

Q: What happens if I pay to have a CA take the certification education but the CA quits before he/she is certified?  Do I lose that money?

A: No!  If a CA leaves your employment prior to sitting for the 6 hour certification class, and if you initially registered the CA less than 12 months ago, the rights to the CA certification will be transferred to the new CA.  Call the NCCA office to make the transfer.

If You Need CA Certification:

If you are hired after July 1, 2014 a clinical chiropractic assistant is required by law to obtain a Clinical Chiropractic Assistant Certification within 180 days of hire.

This certification consists of 24 hours of education.

  • Eighteen hours  may be obtained on-line
  • six have to be didactic.
  • An in-person exam will be administered by the NC Board of Chiropractic Examiners at the end of the in-person education.

The North Carolina Chiropractic Association has developed and designed a certification that meets the requirements as issued by the state. Potential attendees will find their preferred date under our "Events Calendar" and register through that date. Upon registration and payment of the certification program, the links for the 18 hours of on-line education will be sent electronically.  Please note that all 18 hours of on-line education must be complete before a student is allowed to attend the in-person education and sit for the exam.
